Microstructure and mechanical properties of transition zone in laser additive manufacturing of TC4/AlSi12 bimetal structure

Abstract Ti/Al bimetallic structure (BS) has a good development prospect and broader application potential in aerospace engineering. Considering the limitation that dissimilar welding is only applicable to thin plate, it necessary explore new manufacturing process for BS. In this study, TC4/AlSi12 BS was prepared by laser additive (LAM). TC4 zone, AlSi12 zone transition were formed LAM process. Due sufficient diffusion reaction, with width of about 0.8 mm obtained. At same time, few micro-cracks found zone. The microstructure phase composition had been emphatically studied. Research results showed presence Si element made more complicated. evolution from was: α -Ti → Ti 3 Al TiAl+(TiAl+Si) 5 TiAl +( -Al+Si) -Al+Si+TiAl -Al+Si+( -Al+Si). hardness distribution uneven, highest value reaching 524 HV. tensile strength 110Mpa, fracture location located
